Juvederm Voluma XC
Juvederm Voluma XC is a hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler FDA approved and released in the U.S. in the fall of 2013. Its VYCROSS technology provides for a smooth gel consistency that is very durable and has long-lasting result for up to 2 years in some instances. Due to this durability Voluma XC has a lifting ability and is indicated for use in the cheek or midface area where significant fat volume is lost with the aging process. For comfort in mind, Voluma XC has lidocaine in the gel which helps reduce pain or discomfort. Generally, with the application of a topical numbing agent, this treatment results in little to no pain for most patients. Allergy testing is not needed but for those patients who have multiple or severe allergies to other agents there should be benefit to risk discussion with the injector prior to treatment. This product can be used on all skin types and men can also benefit from its use.
Voluma XC should only be injected by a trained professional who has is an expert level injector. Knowledge of the anatomy and vasculature is imperative. This product works nicely with other dermal fillers, neurotoxins (such as Botox Cosmetic, Xeomin or Dysport) and aesthetic treatments such as (chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or fractional laser resurfacing). It is suggested to consult with your provider to orchestrate the planning of multiple treatments. Generally, patients have no downtime but may experience some bruising, tenderness and swelling. If you experience any lumps or bumps be sure to massage these if they are visible. In some instances patients can help prevent or decrease bruising tendency by reviewing medications and supplements prior to treatment. Patients should always consult with their medical provider prior to stopping any medications that are required for medical indications/conditions.
Voluma XC is a hyaluronic acid that can be dissolved if needed. It should be known that due to the nature of this product it is one of the more difficult HA dermal fillers to dissolve.
